Styrkeprøven

I have the day off, but I will be on the boat as a passenger anyway. And what a tour! After a hint from another boat, we are heading to Andfjorden instead of Bleik Canyon. Andfjorden is the stretch of water between Senja and Andøya, where I haven’t been at all this year.
Here we find pilot whales. What else? I mean, I’m on the boat again…
And while I’m taking pictures on the lookout, Connie must have spotted something else. I just hear them talk in Norwegian and the boat turns around and speeds up. Then we approach a group of orcas. It’s not very common to see orcas and pilot whales so close by each other. Usually, we don’t even see them on the same day.

On the boat, I meet a guy from the Netherlands who’s cycling from Bergen to the North Cape. Or at least that was his plan. He admits that he slightly underestimated the route and that the hills are much harder than expected, especially with the 45 kg of luggage. So he shortened the way a bit by taking trains, buses, and ferries.
I tell him about the 24-hour race between Trondheim and Oslo that I learned about from some colleagues at NTNU last year. Styrkeprøven. 515 km and 4220 m cumulative elevation gain. I guess you have to be at least a little crazy for this.
He takes videos with his GoPro and asks me about my camera and lens. Only later I find out that he used to work as a professional photographer. There is probably a lot I could learn…
